More information:
The Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest offers undergraduate specialization in Translation Studies, in its Department for Translators, Interpreters and Terminologists (DTIT). This study area is trans-lingual, involving the direct and equal participation of all the departments of the working languages, i.e. English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian. Over the years, the English Department has acquired considerable pedagogical and practical expertise in the field, as English was one of the initial languages the program started with, alongside French and German. The other languages were added later on. The faculty members teaching within this department are all academics as well as working translators, internationally trained in both teaching and translating. The DTIT organizes a separate admission exam and trains its students in Translation Theory and Practice, Consecutive Interpretation with and without note-taking, Cultural Studies, ESP, European Institutions, as well as the mainstream courses of lectures in English Linguistics and Literature. Our graduates receive a BA degree diploma in the field of Translation Studies and can successfully start a career as translators or continue their training with one of the MA programs available within the Centre for the Translation and Interpretation of the Contemporary Text:
- The European MA Program for Conference Interpretation, in English, French and German,
- The MA Program for Specialized Translations and Terminology, in English, and
- The MA for the Translation of the Contemporary Literary Text, in English.
All MA programs welcome BA graduates of various fields of study, provided they prove to have proficient command of the working languages. All programs have established close links with professional and academic institutions in Europe and worldwide. International experts deliver regular teaching sessions and hold practical seminars and workshops with the graduate students, who also have the opportunity to obtain scholarships, participate in internships with prestigious European institutions, as well as have their translations published in mainstream literary and cultural publications, in volumes of translations published by renowned editing houses, and on the internet. Videoconferences with contemporary British writers and poets, and radio programs of poetry reading are organized. After graduation, they are eligible for international recruitment tests with European institutions.
